500 Word Essay Source Evaluation

The essay I chose is titled, “Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology in Relationships: Findings from an Open-Ended Survey.” It discusses a broad list of pros and cons of technology in relation to life tasks, relationships, and many other categories. What I like about this essay is that it’s biggest focus is how technology affects relationships; romantic and otherwise. I find this topic to be very interesting and would like to know more about it. I also believe it would tie into my next essay topic very strongly. It also addresses the strengths and weakness of communicating through technology which I believe would also be a strong point to discuss in my upcoming essay. I chose this essay because of the great points it makes. The information it contains is all extremely relevant to my essay prompt and what I want my essay to be focused on. This essay’s source is acceptable for me. I looked up both authors of the essay and they each were credible sources. The first author is Katherine M. Hertlein, a professor with her PhD. The second author is Katrina Ancheta, who I researched and discovered that she has written many other esteemed articles about related subjects. I also found this essay using the library’s search tool, which is a reputable source when it comes to finding essays, articles, and other evidence. I can already see many connection that I can make between this essay and the others I will be using in my upcoming prompt. This essay talks about the positive and negative ways technology affects communication. In his essay, Bill Wasik describes how he uses technology in a positive way to communicate with many others and to coordinate a really cool idea. Wasik’s essay supports the use of technology in a positive way to communicate with others. In Anderson’s essay, he provides many examples of how technology is useful to individuals as well. All three essays that I will be citing in my upcoming prompt portray technology in an overall positive light, while still questioning some of the negative impacts it can have as well. These are the types of pieces I want to be working with on our next writing prompt. They have the examples I need as well as some naysayer examples as well. All three essays relate to each other and I know that they will fit this upcoming writing prompt we have been assigned as well.
